The Manees House is the headquarters for the Junior League of North Little Rock. It was completed by Solon Humphrey on December 28, 1895. As a young couple, Elmer Olonzo and Alma Manees watched construction from their typical "shotgun" house at Maple and Third. Alma asked her husband, who owned a dry goods store on Main Street, to buy it for her someday. In 1908, he did buy the Victorian home and eventually all seven daughters and their son were married there. It was a fascinating time in which to live. The Argenta settlement became the City of North Little Rock in 1904, despite opposition from the City of Little Rock. E.O. Manees had represented Argenta, then the eighth ward of Little Rock, as an alderman.

After Elmer Olonzo Manees' death in 1941, the City of North Little Rock bought the home for $12,650 and used it to house the Health Department until 1962. At that time, the Junior Service League of North Little Rock (which became the Junior League of North Little Rock in 1978) was granted a 99-year lease. The League began restoration on the home.

In 1976, the chapter house was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places and was granted $10,000 in matching funds for restoration. In 1987, the Quapaw Quarter Association gave the League the Greater Little Rock Preservation Award for outstanding preservation outside the Quapaw Quarter Historic District. In 2001, the League accepted a grant worth over $12,000 from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Society, which was matched by half with League funds.

In addition to a rich history, the restored Manees home boasts an elegant setting with many special architectural features unique to turn-of-the-century homes. The League continues to preserve and maintain the house and it serves as the League's headquarters. It is available to the public for rental as a setting for social functions.
